The white sands blow out of a dry lake and cover 200 square miles. Plants have adapted to grow quickly above rising dunes,
but eventually the dunes move on, leaving the roots exposed.

Low sun angles, early and late in the day, provide shadows that define the surfaces. The sand is so bright that auto
exposure automatically yields a nice blue sky,
