High desert
Alamogordo, New Mexico
Taken southwest of the city center, this type of desert is typical of the region. Alamogordo is famous as the site of the
first atomic bomb test (which was actually closer to Tularosa, to the north) and for White Sands National Monument. The
mountains shown here, to the east, host the Sunspot solar observatory

A long foreground offers lots of fine detail. Unsharp masking boosts the sharpness to show detail in a small image.
